PVD World Music: Kweku Aggrey Jazz Trio

6:00 – 8:00pm on the Boathouse Lawn

Join us for another special evening of music brought to you by PVD World Music. Kweku Aggrey is a Ghanaian-American bassist, composer, and producer from the Philadelphia Area. Currently he is based in Providence, RI where he attends graduate school.

Kweku Aggrey’s Jazz Trio is a genre-blending ensemble that combines aspects of jazz improvisation with soul, r&b, highlife, and hip-hop influences. On his instrument, bandleader Kweku Aggrey has a warm presence, carving out basslines that are both welcoming and familiar. He is joined by a remarkable group of musicians who are collectively playful, clever, spontaneous, and thoughtful. As a unit, the group navigates sonics that are emotive and introspective, but also rhythmic and joyful. Their performance will feature a combination of both jazz standards and original compositions.Over the last three years, PVD World Music Institute has brought several African Traditional music artists to Providence to transform the city into a musicscape that showcases Providence’s unique cultural music traditions and gives burgeoning artists a voice to communicate with Providence in new and interesting ways. The Providence World Music Series and gives the community a chance to interact with, and appreciate musical traditions as diverse as the people of Africa and the World in Rhode Island.
