People’s Creative Workshop: A Soft Fire, Art + Healing

This is a conversation-based and hands-on workshop about how art can be used for community healing and organizing toward community causes. The session will be held with current and new SISTA Fire members and is open to BIPOC women, femmes, and nonbinary people who are engaged in community organizing or interested in social practice art. We will exchange how we use art for healing and organizing, will engage in hands-on artmaking, and will talk through how to use art in upcoming community actions.

Este taller exploraremos cómo el arte puede usarse para para organizar hacia causas comunitarias y procesos de sanación. La sesión se llevará a cabo con participantes de la organización SISTA Fire y está abierta a mujeres BIPOC, femmes y personas no binaries que estén involucrades en acciones comunitarias o interesades en cómo usar el arte para lograr impacto social. Tendremos un intercambio de experiencias, espacio para crear arte, y conversaremos sobre cómo usar arte como herramienta para potenciar acciones comunitarias.

About the artist/Sobre la artista

Shey ‘Rí Acu’ Rivera Ríos (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist with 12 years of experience in the arts sector with a strong focus on community development and racial and gender justice. They believe art and culture can be catalysts for social change and collective healing by using multiple forms of storytelling to imagine and realize futures of justice and abundance.
Shey ‘Rí Acu’ Rivera Ríos (elle) es artista interdisciplinarie con 12 años de experiencia en el sector de las artes con enfoque en el desarrollo comunitario y la justicia racial y de género. Para Rivera, el arte y la cultura pueden catalizar el cambio social y la sanación colectiva a través de múltiples formas de narración para imaginar y realizar futuros justos y de abundancia.

Thank you to all the fashionistas who attended our Fascinator Workshop at the Botanical Center and created some show-stopping floral accessories with the help of instructor Michelle Carden. 

Even if you missed the workshop, you have full permission to get creative with your Rosé look!
