Meet near the Rose Garden

Come for the light-up spectacle, stay for live music! Join us for Sunset Under Long Wave, a chance to hang out and appreciate local creatives, featuring live music by I Am Empress.

After the sun sets, Long Wave lights up the lawn near the Rose Garden with its mesmerizing spiral structure. Presented by Roger Williams Park Conservancy, this new immersive public art installation combines the talents of Pneuhaus and Smooth Technology, with funding from the RI Commerce Corporation through the RI Rebounds Placemaking Initiative, and support from the Providence Parks Department.

About the artist: I Am Empress is a singer, writer, and performer whose work moves between poetry and music like breath and heartbeat. Her art lives in that space between softness and strength, between what’s been survived and what’s still being born. Drawing from her life as a mother, survivor, and truth-teller, she uses melodic expression, rhythm, and language to turn pain into power and everyday moments into themes of resilience.

As a music student at the Community College of Rhode Island, she’s studying jazz performance and composition, shaping her craft while raising her four children and building a life rooted in both sound and service. Her nonprofit work through The Stone River House focuses on creating intentional spaces for mothers, artists, and families—places where healing, housing, and creativity can exist side by side.

#GivingTuesday2025 is just around the corner, and we get it – there are so many wonderful local nonprofits seeking support this time of year!

Why include Roger Williams Park Conservancy in your giving plan?

Behind the more than 50 free and low-cost programs hosted every year, the restoration of beloved historic structures still playing a role in the community today, and the expansive green spaces and waterways sustaining humans and wildlife alike, there are crucial partnerships and much hard work that goes into stewarding Roger Williams Park.

As Board Member Chris Lanen shares – and so many families can relate to! – "the Park provides [a] retreat into nature. Individually, it gives me a place to exercise and decompress. As a parent, it gives my child a magical place to play, explore, and learn throughout the year.”
