Museum of Natural History Anniversary Celebration: 130 years of Curiosity and Discovery

Join the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park on Saturday, June 6th as we celebrate 130 years as the “People’s University.” The Museum invites you to be part of this milestone celebration-share your stories, add to our community Memory Wall and enjoy hands-on activities that highlight generations of learning and connection. Celebrate the Museum’s past, present and future as a place where people of all ages explore, learn and connect.

130th Anniversary Activities | Saturday, June 6
10am–4pm | Memory Wall and Activities
Cost: Free with Museum admission | Museum admission is $2 | Free for Museum Members and children under age 4 | Free first Saturday for Providence residents with proof of residency.
Share your memories, photos and stories of visits past and present; explore hands-on activities and complete a special Museum Quest highlighting the history and collections.

11am, 12pm, 1pm | Archive Tour | Advance Reservation
Audience:

$5 (includes Museum admission)    
Go behind the scenes and explore historic archives that tell the story of the Museum’s legacy. Please note this is a behind-the-scenes, non-public space with stair access only.

2pm | Our Place in Space Planetarium show
There’s no place like home! Experience a special anniversary presentation in the planetarium. Begin your journey on Earth and travel through our solar system and beyond. Explore the craters of Mercury, the storms of Neptune, and discover what makes Earth unique before venturing into nebulae and star clusters of the Milky Way galaxy.
Audience: General (children must be age 4+)
Cost: $5 (includes Museum admission) | Museum Members Free | Free first Saturday for Providence residents with proof of residency. Providence residents can reserve planetarium show tickets in person. Tickets are subject to availability at the time of reservation.
IMPORTANT PLANETARIUM SHOW GUIDELINES:
Tickets are recommended to be reserved online, including for Museum Members. Availability is limited. All sales are final.
Everyone attending the planetarium show needs a ticket.
Children must be age 4 or older; those 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be supervised at all times.
Phones must be silenced, and attendees should remain quiet during the show to help everyone enjoy the full experience.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for check-in, as doors close at showtime and will not reopen—no late entry is permitted for visitor safety once the show begins.

Skip a trip to the grocery store and head to the RWP Gateway Center this Saturday, August 1, 9 AM-12 PM, for the @africanallianceofrhodeisland Pop-Up Farmers Market, and support local farmers!

Shop locally grown produce, farm-fresh eggs, and seasonal fruits, and enjoy music from DJ Flip and learn more about community resources. WIC, SFMNP, SNAP (Double Up Food Bucks), Square, and more are accepted.
