Mission Space Week

RWP Museum of Natural History and Planetarium

3…2…1… Blast off to the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams! Celebrate February School Vacation with Mission Space Week, an out-of-this-world experience for visitors of all ages. Explore the wonders of space through hands-on activities, interactive challenges, a special museum quest, and planetarium shows (additional fee) that bring the cosmos to life. Museum admission is $2 | Free for Museum Members and children under age 4. Planetarium shows are $5 and include Museum admission — children must be age 4 or older to attend the planetarium show.

Daily Activities | Saturday, February 14 – Friday, February 20 
10am–4pm | Mission Space Family Fun
Enjoy space-themed activities throughout the museum, including the planet detective challenge, hands-on craft and a special Mission Space museum quest.
Cost: Free with Museum admission. 

12:30pm–1:30pm | Explore the Glow of Space Science
Step into a hands-on space adventure where electricity comes to life! Touch a plasma globe to guide dancing lightning, then watch a fluorescent bulb glow with no wires attached. Discover how glowing gases and plasma create light in space—from shining stars to the colorful aurora above Earth. It is a mission full of sparks, surprises and cosmic fun!
Cost: Free with Museum admission 

1pm & 2pm| Our Place in Space Planetarium Show
There’s no place like home! Begin your journey on Earth and travel through our solar system and beyond. Explore the craters of Mercury, the storms of Neptune, and discover what makes Earth unique before venturing into nebulae and star clusters of the Milky Way galaxy.
Audience: General (children must be age 4+)
Cost: Planetarium show ticket (includes museum admission) is $5/ Museum Members Free.


IMPORTANT PLANETARIUM SHOW GUIDELINES:

  • Tickets are recommended to be reserved online, including for Museum Members. Availability is limited. All sales are final.
  • Everyone attending the planetarium show needs a ticket.
  • Children must be age 4 or older; those 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Phones must be silenced, and attendees should remain quiet during the show to help everyone enjoy the full experience.
  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for check-in, as doors close at showtime and will not reopen—no late entry is permitted for visitor safety once the show begins.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Hype Crew will bring a preview of The Greatest Show On Earth® to Food Truck Friday at Roger Williams Park, kicking off this summer’s Movies in the Park series on May 8! You will be treated to a high-energy mini performance featuring a variety of acts, including unicycles, jump rope acrobatics, balancing, and more – all building excitement for @ringling’s return to Providence!

This Friday, grab a bite to eat at 5 PM from one of the amazing food trucks at Carousel Village, and then head over to the Boathouse lawn (just across the street) for the Ringling Bros. preview show at 5:30 PM. Stick around to see The Greatest Showman at 8 PM!
