City Nature Challenge Presentation: Bringing the World Together for Biodiversity

Join Malia Cafasso, TerraCorps Community Engagement Coordinator at Audubon Society of Rhode Island and Stormwater Innovation Center, to learn about how to use iNaturalist and how to participate in the City Nature Challenge. The City Nature Challenge (April 24–27), is an annual international event to collaboratively record as many wildlife observations as possible during a four-day challenge. People from all over the world explore nature in their neighborhoods and cities to find and document wildlife. 2026 marks Rhode Island’s 5th year participating, and needs community members like you to help record as many species as we can. iNaturalist, a free smartphone app, allows anyone to photograph and identify plants and animals while contributing to real scientific research. Scientists and conservation organizations use this community-collected data to monitor biodiversity and track environmental change. Come learn how your iNaturalist observations can make a difference in Rhode Island’s City Nature Challenge 2026!
Cost: Free (attendees receive Free Museum Admission on April 23)

As the seasons begin to change, it`s a great time to reconnect with the natural world and slow down. We`re excited to partner with the @rwpbotanicalcenter to offer a free Forest Bathing (Shinrin Yoku) session on September 19 at 10 AM with Lee Ann. This guided experience invites you to breathe deeply, notice your surroundings, and open your senses to the sights, sounds, textures, and rhythms of the forest.

Lee Ann Freitas is the director of the Botanical Center and a Certified Forest Therapist, horticulturist, and a hardcore advocate for all things nature. She creates a welcoming and peaceful environment for participants to slow down, connect with nature, and be present.

The session is free, but registration is limited – sign up online (link in bio)!
