Meet George Nickolopoulos!
Unofficially known as the “pumpkin guy,” George Nickolopoulos has worn many hats in his work for the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular over the years, from experienced carving artist to serving as the show’s public-facing ambassador, as well as designing props and special effects, and building and wiring the show – “approximately seven miles of electrical wire and 1.5 miles of speaker cable every year!” he explains. He also conducts private pumpkin carving demonstrations and classes for non-profit organizations, corporate, and private clients. George lives in West Greenwich with his wife, Abby, a Zoological Veterinary Technician at RWPZ, and their fearless 9-year old daughter Charlotte.
Beyond pumpkin season, Roger Williams Park holds personal significance for George. “I love our Park. I often find myself lost in the natural beauty, waterways, and old structures that remind us of the many ways that land has served the citizens of Rhode Island over the years,” he says. “I met my wife at Roger Williams Park Zoo, have spent countless hours at the Carousel Village with our daughter, attended political, cultural, and musical events at the Temple of Music, gone sledding, and even built a rather impressive snowman there once!
“Of all the places I love in Rhode Island, Roger Williams Park stands out as closest to my heart. It is a bucolic landscape that brings our community together in so many amazing ways, including the great Jack o’ Lantern Spectacular, the greatest glow on earth.”
The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is now open, and runs nightly through November 2. Purchase tickets online, and visit the RWPZ website for pricing, sensory-friendly dates, volunteer opportunities, and everything you need to know!
