Abraham Lincoln Memorial

Providence’s only monument to Abraham Lincoln was commissioned by a bequest from jewelry manufacturer Henry W. Harvey in memory of his wife, Georgina.

Many citizens also asked for years for the Park to host a statue of The Great Liberator. But it took 33 years from Mrs. Harvey’s passing for this monument to come to pass. The Providence Art Club and Rhode Island School of Design were to choose the sculptor. But, Gilbert Franklin was the Chairman for the Fine Arts at RISD and he chose himself!

Date Erected:
1958
Artist:
Gilbert Franklin
Did you know?
The statue is 12-feet tall and the granite base weighs 10 tons!

THANK YOU to everyone who made Rosé in the Roses so memorable! Last Thursday, we celebrated the Conservancy and community, while giving a bittersweet send-off to RWPC’s outgoing board chair, Joe Pari.

Shout-out to @theprovidencedrumtroupe and @thesoundofgravity for filling the Botanical Center with magical sights and sounds – we can’t be the only ones still humming Pink Pony Club, right? 🤩 And to talented musicians Ashley Frith and @luisgilbertord for serenading guests throughout the night!

Stay tuned for a part-2 recap highlighting the rest of our amazing vendors and sponsors who made this year’s event one for the books!
