Drawing Wild: From the Collection

Monday, November 10, 1-4 PM
Monday, December 8, 1-4 PM
RWP Museum of Natural History

You will have the opportunity to discover, or rediscover, the fascinating collections during this private program exploring theΒ Museum of Natural History and PlanetariumΒ in Roger Williams Park. Bring a small easel or chair and your drawing or painting materials, and choose your subject from the collections of birds, bears, lions, and Oceanic artifacts. Museum staff will also select some special β€œguests” from the museum vaults to display. During the program, the instructor will circulate for those who wish feedback, and at the end of the session, attendees will gather to view and discuss each other’s work. Museum is closed to the public during this program.

Program fee:Β $35 per adult/ $30 forΒ museum members.Β Pre-registration required.Β Β

Permitted Materials:Β You may bring the medium of your choice β€” charcoal pencils, graphite, colored pencils, pastels, or watercolor (please, no oils or acrylics).Β  All skill levels are welcome to participate, high school age and older. Capacity is limited, so sign up early to guarantee your spot.

INSTRUCTOR:
KATHY HODGE:Β Kathy Hodge attended RISD and has a BFA in painting from Swain School of Design. She has been working in oils and charcoal for over 30 years, has exhibited widely and was awarded the 2017 Fellowship in Painting from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Kathy has long taken inspiration from the natural world in her landscape paintings and was appointed Artist in Residence in thirteen of our National Parks and Forests. She first discovered the museum collections when taking a museum class and she is very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to draw from the collections.

Venue

Have you seen green Adirondack chairs appearing in Roger Williams Park? With funding from the @aarplivable #aarpcommunitychallenge grant program and the hard work of @pvdparks to install them, these Conversation Nooks invite visitors to sit, unwind, and connect with neighbors and loved ones.

Find four spots along Frederick C. Green Memorial Blvd. and near the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium.

Even in the winter months, we hope these seating nooks will offer a few moments of reprieve in the outdoors when neighbors need it most.
A friendly heads up to Park-goers: Maple and Pine avenues at Cladastris Avenue are temporarily closed for approximately 4-6 weeks, limiting vehicle access to Park Avenue via FC Greene Memorial Boulevard.

This temporary closure makes way for boardwalk construction at Cunliff Lake, a public access project that will enhance recreational opportunities at Roger Williams Park!

During this period, traffic will be detoured to park entrance and exit locations at Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue and Elmwood Avenue. Drivers using the Elmwood Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to FC Greene Memorial Boulevard to Linden Avenue to Elmwood Avenue south to Park Avenue east. Those using the Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to Montgomery Avenue to Broad Street south to Warwick Avenue south to Park Avenue west.

Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open. However, visitors are advised to follow posted signage and respect all barriers, as a crane will be active weekdays from 7AM to 3PM.
