MNH Lifelong Learners: Birding in the Collections

Canโ€™t wait until spring to see wood warblers and tanagers? Curious to learn about bird families from distant lands? Join us as we peruse theย Museum of Natural Historyโ€™s collection of over 5500 bird specimens in the collection storage vaults. From tropical Sword-billed Hummingbirds to extinct Passenger Pigeons, you can view the wonders of the avian world up close and without the need of your binoculars. Vaults are only accessible by stairs.ย This program is being offered twice; it is not a two-part program.

Program fee per session:ย $3 per adult/Free for museum members.ย ย Pre-registration required.ย Capacity is limited. Pets are not permitted on walking tours. Children are not permitted in our lifelong learners programming.ย

Theย Museum of Natural History and Planetariumย offers tours, talks, drawing classes and other programs throughout the year for adult learners in our Lifelong Learners series. We have a variety of programming tailored for all kinds of lifelong learners

Venue

A friendly heads up to Park-goers: Maple and Pine avenues at Cladastris Avenue are temporarily closed for approximately 4-6 weeks, limiting vehicle access to Park Avenue via FC Greene Memorial Boulevard. 

This temporary closure makes way for boardwalk construction at Cunliff Lake, a public access project that will enhance recreational opportunities at Roger Williams Park!

During this period, traffic will be detoured to park entrance and exit locations at Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue and Elmwood Avenue. Drivers using the Elmwood Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to FC Greene Memorial Boulevard to Linden Avenue to Elmwood Avenue south to Park Avenue east. Those using the Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to Montgomery Avenue to Broad Street south to Warwick Avenue south to Park Avenue west.

Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open. However, visitors are advised to follow posted signage and respect all barriers, as a crane will be active weekdays from 7AM to 3PM.
