Opera in the Park – Turandot Abriged

Saturday, September 21st
6:30 – 8:00 PM
Temple to Music
Free & Open to All

Come out and join us for this family-friendly event, free and open to the public!Β  Presented by Coffee Milk Opera, in partnership with Roger Williams Park Conservancy, and the Providence Parks Department.

Think opera is not for you? Think again! Enjoy the open air concert venue and experience some beautiful music without the worry of stuffy concert etiquette or expensive ticket prices. Bring along picnic supplies and a blanket or a chair! Β This is an evening of community gathering in a perfect venue for a night of music and celebration!Β

Coffee Milk Opera will present highlights from Puccini’s beloved Turandot, in concert for Opera in the Park at Temple to Music, Roger Williams Park on September 21stΒ at 6:30pm, free and open to the public. Rhode Island native Kate Norigian, soprano, will perform Princess Turandot, along with her brother, John Norigian, music director and pianist. Krista Wilhelmsen, resident of Cranston, RI will perform the role of Liu. Tenor Matthew Arnold, fellow New Englander, will perform what is considered the most famous opera aria in the world: β€œNessun Dorma,” known for its high notes and ability to evoke emotion, making it a popular choice for contestants on Britain/America’s Got Talent on other TV commercials and shows.

Through the generous support of RISCA and the Roger Williams Park Conservancy, Opera in the Park is able to produce Opera in the Park. Turandot will mark the second “Opera in the Park” performance, with hopefully many more to follow! “Watching opera out in nature and under the stars is a magical experience. Last year children blew bubbles and ran around while parents picnicked. Friends played games, and snacked, all while enjoying some beautiful music. We want to make opera accessible for everyone.”

Attendees are advised to bring their own seating and to arrive early both for pre-performance picnicking and to secure the best viewing/listening areas. Feel free to bring snacks, chairs, blankets, picnic gear, or just yourself! Families, children, and pets are all welcome.

A friendly heads up to Park-goers: Maple and Pine avenues at Cladastris Avenue are temporarily closed for approximately 4-6 weeks, limiting vehicle access to Park Avenue via FC Greene Memorial Boulevard.

This temporary closure makes way for boardwalk construction at Cunliff Lake, a public access project that will enhance recreational opportunities at Roger Williams Park!

During this period, traffic will be detoured to park entrance and exit locations at Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue and Elmwood Avenue. Drivers using the Elmwood Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to FC Greene Memorial Boulevard to Linden Avenue to Elmwood Avenue south to Park Avenue east. Those using the Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to Montgomery Avenue to Broad Street south to Warwick Avenue south to Park Avenue west.

Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open. However, visitors are advised to follow posted signage and respect all barriers, as a crane will be active weekdays from 7AM to 3PM.
