Concerts Under the Sycamore featuring THE STRANGS
Wednesdays – August 16th and September 13th
Cottage open at 5:00 PM
Concert at 6:00 – 7:30 PM
Betsey Williams Cottage, Roger Williams Park
Enjoy a Concert under the Sycamore at the Betsey Williams Cottage featuring the trio The Strangs.
Step back in time to listen to music under the beautiful Sycamore and explore the beautifully restored Betsey Williams Cottage. Built in 1773 and was home to Roger Williams’ great-great-great granddaughters, Betsey and Rhoda Williams. Upon her death in 1871, Betsey Williams bequeathed the cottage and 102 acres of surrounding farmland to the city of Providence, which became the foundation of Roger Williams Park.
These outdoor concerts are FREE and open to the public. The cottage opens at 5pm, with the performances beginning at 6pm. Presented by the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium and Roger Williams Park Gateway Center. Purchase a picnic blanket and tote bag, perfect for enjoying a concert in the park! Items will be available for pick-up at the concerts!
ABOUT THE STRANGS: Put three fiddlers together, plus their guitars, mandolins, cello, erhu, & piano, and, well, you have a lot of β€œstrangs”! Long-time southern New England fiddlers, Dan Lanier, Kevin Fallon, & Cathy Clasper-Torch make magic happen when they meld their musical backgrounds into lively & lovely Celtic, folk, bluegrass, swing, songs, sea chanties, waltzes, and more.

Venue

A friendly heads up to Park-goers: Maple and Pine avenues at Cladastris Avenue are temporarily closed for approximately 4-6 weeks, limiting vehicle access to Park Avenue via FC Greene Memorial Boulevard.

This temporary closure makes way for boardwalk construction at Cunliff Lake, a public access project that will enhance recreational opportunities at Roger Williams Park!

During this period, traffic will be detoured to park entrance and exit locations at Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue and Elmwood Avenue. Drivers using the Elmwood Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to FC Greene Memorial Boulevard to Linden Avenue to Elmwood Avenue south to Park Avenue east. Those using the Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue exit will follow Cladastris Avenue to Montgomery Avenue to Broad Street south to Warwick Avenue south to Park Avenue west.

Pedestrian and bicycle access will remain open. However, visitors are advised to follow posted signage and respect all barriers, as a crane will be active weekdays from 7AM to 3PM.
