The Lions Memorial honors the community service of Rhode Island’s Lions Clubs.

Lions International includes 46,000 clubs and over 1.4M million members. In Rhode Island, each local club raises funds through all sorts of events to support young people in their community and around the world.

One well-known Lion was Chief Judge Albert DeRobbio. He served as chief of Rhode Island’s district court for 21 years, and was best know for revamping the court to address a huge backlog of cases for what was then the traffic court. He was an active citizen, teaching at Roger Williams University School of Law and serving in the local Lions Club. After his death in 2008, then-Attorney General Patrick Lynch said:

“He was a demanding and commanding presence who made sure parties were prepared, responsive and fair.”
